VFW Post 6249 in Rocky Point along with Joesph Dwyer’s Family, NYS Senator Ken LaValle, Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine, Councilwoman Jane Bonner, and other veterans and supporters in the community recently attended the unveiling of the Joesph P Dwyer Statue in a Veteran Park in Rocky Point.
Dwyer a Combat Medic was photographed carrying a Young Boy near Al Faysaliyah, Iraq in 2003. Upon returning home Dwyer continued to suffer with PTSD due to his time in Iraq and sadly was lost to an overdose.
Than Senator, now Congressman Zeldin was instrumental in paving the way for the Joesph P. Dwyer Peer 2 Peer program which is currently a bipartisan bill signed by servers congressman with the hopes to bring the program nation wide.
In order to erect the statue Post 6249 received 65,000 dollars from the State Dormitory Authority, which was done by Alan E. Fricke Memorials.
The Post also recently received 4,150.00 from the Rocky Point Chamber to continue this years Home Town Hero Banner Program. They have also been working with the Rocky Point H. S. Who helped them assemble 12,000 of the 250,000 they hope to assemble this year. #vfw #vfwpostpride #stillserving
